Embracing silence
Embracing silence
This photo was taken one day prior to the announcement of an emergency situation due to the virus outbreak in my home country. I used to take this exact route everyday on my way home. I loved the feeling I had while passing through those tiny shops selling second-hand clothes and used books. It was also possible to stumble upon the beauty parlours with the neon lights illuminating the road ahead. The silence that covered those empty streets at night was also the beauty of that place. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary until that day that changed the course of events, where even the silence that overtook the area seemed so alienated from the one I was so familiar with. Pyjamas all day
Pyjamas all day
Today most of our days and activities unfold according to an established schedule and this scheme does not vary much from the rest of the world. My life is no exception either. But as it's important to catch positive sides in any given situation I try to extract the most from the day. By spending most of my time with my twin sister and making her comfortable in front of the camera I create a sisterly relationship, that is both emotional and universal. [Ekaterine Kolesnikova]
Thoughts and dreams
Thoughts and dreams
I took this photo of my mom's cousin at the moment when she was looking in the mirror at herself. I thought she was reminiscing some solitude moments or a sad story about her life. Maybe I was mistaken, who knows... [Ekaterine Kolesnikova]
Endless melancholy
Endless melancholy
Today is the ninth day since the government declared an emergency situation in my home country. I asked my mom when exactly did it happen because I'm no longer counting the days. The time also lost its usual significance. [Ekaterine Kolesnikova]

The weather was surprisingly warm and sunny. I could smell spring in the air. [Ekaterine Kolesnikova]
Alienation
Alienation
I spent most of the time with my twin sister in the room that you see on the photograph. It became kinda our shelter during this pandemic period. The main reason for choosing that room consists in its shape and wallpaper design, but also a lamp that definitely create an atmosphere. We find the room very cozy. [Ekaterine Kolesnikova]
Shadow work
Shadow work
Sometimes I see my sister super busy and it seems she would definitely turn down my suggestion to photograph her. So, I start taking photos of others members or just put my camera aside and wait. I enjoy observing my family members being immersed in their work. This is when I end up with the most interesting photo series, I think. That night my sister seemed super nostalgic. She was constantly staring at the shadow coming from the Tv screen. [Ekaterine Kolesnikova]

Into a dreamland...
Into a dreamland...
Recently a friend of mine went through hard times. She needed someone to talk with and since we live in the same neighbourhood I was ready to help. We talked for a while, and I felt she started to feel better. Of course this whole "therapy session" involved social distancing. I also did not miss the chance to take some photographs. When the nights falls on the village
When the nights falls on the village
After the end of the curfew, my family decided to travel to our house in the countryside. The weather is nice most of the time and there is always a bunch of stuff to do. So, we never get bored in here. [Ekaterine Kolesnikova]
Random days
Random days
It has been almost two weeks since I moved yo my village. I decided to stay away from the city chaos. This photo is an example of how public gatherings at the villages look like. [Ekaterine Kolesnikova]
Repair days at the village
Repair days at the village
In a few days it'll be exactly one month I'm staying in my village. Every day is a new beginning and there's always something to discover, to hear, and to stumble upon. This time it's my neighbor doing the repairs. [Ekaterine Kolesnikova]
